Everyday Mom Scout Part I -What to Pack?

Everyday Mom Scout Series - Part 1:

Have you ever deliberated over what to pack for a day of adventuring with your kids?

I was not in a scouting program growing up. However, I feel like I am putting myself through one as an adult as I guide my children through our homeschool adventures and an outdoor lifestyle. When our family began prioritizing outside time, getting out of the door seemed like so much work. I would pack all the things and would still be missing something important. Of course, we have fun and manage, but being prepared makes me feel at ease and somewhat in control. The basics, like water and snacks, are obvious essentials, but a mini medical tin for the inevitable bumps and scrapes along the way has come in handy and is a staple in our packs, along with a wet bag and quick-dry towels. We don’t do super off-the-grid adventurers; we are just the average family who wants to step outside and enjoy God’s creation.

I hope this helps you pack for your everyday adventures.

Everyday Mom Scout Adventure Packing - Part 1:

My favorite backpacks for kids are the REI Tarn backpacks. The compartments are perfect, and we use the Tarn 12 Pack for my 5-year-old and the Tarn 18 Pack for my 11-year-old.

  1. Water is essential - A water bladder or water bottle is the most important. We use water bladders on longer hikes. Otherwise, we carry our water bottles and keep a larger bottle in the trunk of our car. The Gregory Water Bladder has been our favorite. We also love the Simple Modern 22 oz Water Bottles for most days.

  2. Snacks - The Country Archer Beef Sticks are always in our pack for emergency snacking.

  3. Quick dry towel - We like the Wise Owl Outfitters Camping Towel

  4. Wet Bag - Because someone is bound to get wet or muddy. Wet Dry Bag

  5. Mini Medical Tin (See the video below for items I use to create my medical tin)

Cheers to everyday adventuring!
